Gauteng = epicentre of the 3rd wave – accounts for over 60% of current cases.

1st wave – 15 weeks
2nd wave – 9 weeks
3rd wave – suspected will last longer than previous two.

CLARITY ON NEW RESTRICTIONS WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE GOVT GAZETTE – WILL SHARE ONCE AVAILABLE – we don’t have further info on any of the above at this stage.

VACCINATIONS:

* Almost 2,7 million vaccinated (over 950,000 healthcare workers, 184,000 teachers vaccinated).
* 3,8 million have registered on the database.
* Received additional 1,2 million J&J and 1,4 million Pfizer vaccines.

 

PRIORITY OF VACCINATIONS:

* 50-59 year olds can register from 1 July, vaccinations to start 15 July 2021
* Police and security personnel will start 5 July 2021
* Mining, manufacturing, taxi industry
* Religious leaders

RESIDENTS WARNED AGAINST SPREADING FALSE INFO RELATING TO COVID & VACCINATIONS

– consider harm of false information & the panic it will cause.

New dominant variant – Delta variant detected in EC, KZN, WC, GP, and FS.

– Transmission is twice as contagious as earlier variants.
– Evidence shows those who previously had Beta variant are susceptible to the Delta variant.
– Preliminary data from other countries doesn’t show more severe symptoms than previous variants.

SA to move to adjusted Lockdown Level 4 for 14 days from 28 June – 11 July 2021
(will be reassessed after 14 days)

* All gatherings prohibited – incl. political, cultural, religious and social.
* Funerals & cremations permitted – no more than 50 people.
* Public spaces will remain open but no gatherings permitted.
* Curfew 9pm to 4am.
* Alcohol sales are prohibited.
* Leisure travel in and out of Gauteng is prohibited unless work related/ commercial/ airport transit/ goods transport.
– residents will be allowed to return home from/ to Gauteng.
– visits to old age homes will be restricted
* Restaurants – ONLY take aways or deliveries – no sit down customers.
* School holidays will start early – starting 30 June 2021, all schools must close by Friday, 2 July 2021.
* University/ Tertiary institution residencies will remain open but contact classes will end on 30 June 2021.
* Most businesses can operate at full capacity – observe protocol.
